Company policy?

This afternoon I came downstairs for breakfast, and this is what I found:

That’s right; between the bread and potatoes sits a completely unprotected disc marked ‘Backup 4/11/08′. It is a backup from the company where one of my parents work and contains pretty much all their business’ information, including financial records and the likes.

Backup (2)

Everybody knows that backups always go right, except when you need it. As soon as something really goes wrong you can’t find the backups, they have been destroyed, are incomplete, or none have been made for the last six months so you only have some really old data. These people make manual backups, to writable DVD’s, once a week – if it’s not forgotten – which is then, at best, stored in the glove box of an employee’s car. Probably without the protective case, too.

Seriously, if that company was mine, or if I even worked there, I’d be deeply ashamed.
